Today I wanted to talk to you a little bit about terminology. Some words that you may or may not know that are often used in both new construction and remodeling that would be handy to understand. So, today’s word is soffit. A soffit is a box basically that we build or will frame in and generally dry wall over and that’s soffit is meant to bring down the ceiling height in a certain area. In older homes, you’ll often see a soffit over short cabinets in the kitchen. You will regularly see soffits in a basement. Sometimes soffits are empty. Sometimes they have stuff in them and in remodeling, we have to do a little bit of investigation to find out what we’re getting ourselves into. But word for day is soffit. Again, it brings down the ceiling height in certain areas.
